This 1937/1938 Reichskriegsflagge (German Naval "Battle Flag") was taken in 1945 from the Submarine Base Killian in Kiel, a critical site for German naval operations during World War II. The flag, which bears the maker's mark of "Curt Brautigam Plauen," was torn from its hoist (the fabric strip at the base) and features a sewn-in rope, typical for flags used in naval service.
