About the Print:

After losing his legs in an aerobatic crash in 1931, Douglas Bader recovered to become a highly capable and admirable leader within the RAF. Participating in the Battle of France and the Battle of Britain, Douglas Bader would amass 20 aerial victories against the Luftwaffe before being shot down and captured over France.

About the Artifact:

13 May 1940 - Just prior to the Battle of Britain, RAF Flying Officer Billy Drake was shot down by a Messerschmitt Bf 110 fighter. This artifact is from Billy Drake's Hawker Hurricane which was excavated in 2003. He survived the war with 20 confirmed kills.

This Heinkel He 111 bomber artifact was recovered in 2017 approximately 30 km south of Vinnytsia, Ukraine. Many wing fragments were recovered and it is speculated this aircraft may have served in a logistics role as no evidence of munitions has been recovered.

Craig Tinder has been an aviation artist since 1999 and specializes in rivet-level accuracy. Raised on the fences of the Reno Air Races, Craig has had the opportunity to create illustrations for Medal of Honor Recipients, WWII Aces, as well as the families of veterans looking to commemorate their loved ones.
