ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The Story Behind the Print:

On April 1, 2026, Artemis II launched from Kennedy Space Center aboard NASA’s Space Launch System, carrying astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The mission marked the first crewed flight of the Orion spacecraft and the first time humans traveled beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972.

During the mission, Orion carried the crew around the Moon on a free-return trajectory while NASA tested the spacecraft’s life-support, navigation, communications, and deep-space operations with astronauts aboard. Artemis II traveled 252,756 miles from Earth, setting a new distance record for a human crew and demonstrating the systems and procedures needed for future Artemis missions.

After more than nine days in space, Artemis II returned safely to Earth on April 10, 2026, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego. The successful mission established a major new milestone in the Artemis program and renewed human exploration beyond low Earth orbit for the first time in more than five decades.
