The Story Behind the Print:

On February 25, 1944, the B-17G Dottie G of the 92nd Bomb Group, 325th Squadron, took heavy damage during a mission over Germany. After releasing bombs over the target, the crew was attacked by Messerschmitt Bf 110 fighters. Two engines were lost—one in flames—and the aircraft shook violently as pilot 2LT Clifford Beach dove 5,000 feet to extinguish the fire and regain control.

Dottie G became the first B-17G to land in Switzerland during the war, providing a critical intelligence opportunity for Swiss officials. Her dramatic escape under fire and emergency landing captured the perilous reality of daylight bombing missions over Europe and the split-second decisions crews made to survive.
