Details about the RELIC:
This P-40E Warhawk Air Intake fragment was discovered nearly 40 km from Murmansk, Russia on the western side of Kola Bay. This component was discovered along the shoreline with many other components from the cockpit. The aircraft was part of the Lend-Lease act between the United States and the former Soviet Union.
Fine Art Paper Print (Options C & D) - Relic Not Included:
Each Fine Art Print is printed on archival presentation-quality, 260 GSM / 10 Mil, photographic paper created using the highest quality inks and archival techniques. Photographs do not do this paper substrate justice as it practically "glows" on the wall.
Note: Relic is not included with Fine Art Paper Prints.
The Story Behind the Print:
The P-40's legacy is closely coupled with General Claire Lee Chennault's American Volunteer Group (AVG), otherwise known as the Flying Tigers. Chennault trained his crews to exploit the strengths of the P-40 to fight the Japanese - dive from high altitudes and attack. General Chennault's son, Col. John 'Jack' Chennault would use many of the same tactics while protecting Alaska's Aleutian Islands from Japanese invasion. Painted in a modified "shark-mouth" paint scheme, the 343rd Pursuit Group would defend the U.S. mainland from attack from mid-1942 to fall 1943.
