"Old Reliable HMT Olympic" - Art Print by Craig Tinder
"Old Reliable HMT Olympic"
By Artist Craig Tinder
The workhorse and eldest sister of the White Star Line’s luxury Olympic-class ocean liners, the RMS Olympic completed over 250 round trips across the Atlantic, traveling nearly 2 million miles while safely transporting over 400,000 passengers. At the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, she was converted into a troop transport. In 1918, bristling with light artillery guns and painted in a splinter camouflage, HMT Olympic would engage in combat by ramming and sinking an attacking German U-Boat. After an illustrious career, “Old Reliable” was scrapped in 1935 with the merging of the White Star and Cunard Lines.
